Impact of Selfie on the Personality of the Person- myassignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about theImpact of Selfie on the Personality of the Person. Answer: The social networking sites that are present online have revealed that is an entirely new form of method for the self-presentation (Dhir et al., 2016). This is a tool for the cyber social to provide a new site for the analysis for examining the personality and identity of the persons. The Web site of Facebook.com has started the trend of the selfie clicking behavior in the individuals. There are several correlation analyses that have revealed that the individuals who have higher in the rate of the narcissism and always lower down the self-esteem that were related to the greater online activities as well as some of the self-promotional form of the content (Dhir et al., 2016). The gender differences were also found to have an influence to the type of content that are self-promotional that are presented by the individual. The Facebook users are the implications and for the future researches of the directions who are narcissists and they have the self-esteem on the social networking (Dhi r et al., 2016). They are also associated with the various pervasive form of the patterns that have the positive view on the traits of agentic that basically involves intelligence, power and physical attractiveness. Central to most of the theoretical models that concerns narcissism, that are used of the social relationships is often employed for the regulation of the narcissistic esteem (Lamba et al., 2016). However, there are narcissists who do not always focus on the various interpersonal form of intimacy, warmth, or any other form of the positive aspects of the relational outcomes. Instead, they often uses those relationships that always appears to be the most popular and successful. This may also seek to the attractiveness among the high status individuals as the typical romantic partners (Lamba et al., 2016). The narcissist have the tendency for seeking out the for superficial forms of the relationships and they rarely abide by the commitments for a long period. However, the relationships are pursued only when there is an opportunity for the glory of the public to present itself. In psychology, often self-esteem is observed to be the individuals overall evaluation of self to access the actual worth of the individuals (Lamba et al., 2016). The Implicit and the explicit for of self-esteem are the major subtypes of the self-esteem. The implicit form of the self-esteem is an automatic and unconscious self-evaluation and explicit self-esteem is relatively more conscious and reflective form of self-evaluation (Zhu Chen, 2015). Regardless of the different types of self-esteem, the most facts of the pervasive factors about the construct is that of all the humans have a very vital need for maintaining the fact and raise it. The broader goal of the study is to contribute towards the growing form of the body of the research at the intersections between the social media and its impact on the psychology of the person. The focus in relationship should be always between the traits of narcissism and the motivation that the people get to click so many profile pictures. The profiles on the SN can help to set a platform for the individuals who are narcissists for empathizing them to maximize their increasing rate of administration. The profile pictures are one of the most important features that are the important attributes of the extreme importance to when they should be presenting themselves to the spectators. Therefore, it is a very important form of the strategy of the self-presentation that can include the selection of the pictures, that can convey the message about the individuals self image. While it is necessary to examine the profile pictures in the relation to the differences in the personality, then the relationship should be between the personality and the motivation that are underlying in the choice of the picture, which definitely should not be avoided. The studies have the motivations into three form of the categories that are based on the factors related to the aspects of physical appearance, persona; outlook and the society the individual exists. It generally aims to the influence of motivation behind the strategies of self presentations on the individuals with varied personalities. There has been a lot of talk on the media involvement on selfie. In fact, due to the new rage created by media selfie as a word was added to the Oxford dictionary. However, it is a surprising fact that the psychologists have a little understanding about the effects of narcissism on the personality of the individual (Motsoatsoe, 2016). Narcissism is a phenomenon where there are extreme form of the self obsession and the grandiose view of the person (Motsoatsoe, 2016). The narcissists have an excessive needed to be admired by other people and they have a sense of entitlement. They are likely to agree with the statements like, Im more capable than most people, and I will usually show off if I get the chance (Witkin, 2015). Psychopath have the impulsivity and the lack of the empathy. The people who are diagnosed with any form of psychopathy will likely to agree on the small things that are related to the taking of thee excessive photographs. Self-objectification is the tendency to view ones own body as an object that are based on its sexual worth. Those with high in self-objectification tend to see themselves in terms of their physical appearance and base their self-worth on their appearances (Witkin, 2015). Many researches showed that there are both narcissism and self-objectification that were associated with spending more time online due to the social networking sites and with more of the editing of the photos. Posting numerous selfies was related to both higher narcissism and psychopathy, controlling for the overall number of other types of photos posted. The machiavellianism was unrelated to photo behaviorwhen taking these other variables into account (Motsoatsoe, 2016). Studies have also suggests that the individuals who are narcissists are more likely to show off their selfies and makes extra effort to look their best in these photos. It is very interesting to know that men who are psycho pathetic tend to click selfies more often and posts their pictures without editing it than their normal counterparts. Various studies have inferred that may be this because of the lack the self control and do not really bother to have a filter of the photographs in their posts. The photo editing suggests the level of consciousness and the fear of self presentation of the individuals (Witkin, 2015). However, these results have also shown that men who have viewed their bodies as an objects are more likely to edit their photos. The phenomenon of Self-objectification tends to be generally associated with lowself-esteem. They are quite the opposite of narcissism, which is correlated with high self-esteem. Nevertheless, this is consistent with other findings that both narcissism and low self-esteem are related to greater Facebook use. It is also important to note that those high on self-objectification didnt post more selfiesthey were just more conscious about their appearance in the ones that they did post. Given the greater self-objectification tendencies of women, it would be interesting to examine these questions in a female sample as well However, before we start pointing at each of the selfie-posting on Facebook friends of being self-obsessednarcissistsandpsychopaths,realizethatthesecorrelations(thoughstatistically significant)were relatively small, and the sample studied didnt include women. The researchrs have defined selfie to be the self portrait form of the photograph that are taken with the help of the camera of the phone by holding the phone an arms length or been pointed in front of the mirror. They are usually shared through the medium of social media. There are various kinds of selfies that eventually does not include the other people. The researchers have found out the various form s of the selfies that include the solo sefie, romantic selfie with partner and group selfie (Annadani et al., 2015). Through the studies it has been evident that researches have been examined the results that has been observed from the men in America and Poland. The researchers conducted two studies, measuring narcissism and selfie-posting behavior. It is very important to watch that there are increased form of demand for admiring the women who shows up taking selfies alone and woman who are taking selfies with their partner. There was no increase in a need for more attention when a woman posted a selfie involving a group of people. All the studies have been conducted so far are involving the men and the women have also only shown a small correlation between taking a selfie and increased narcissism. Part of these issues contributes to the certain factors may not yet be fully uncovered which can explain certain behaviors (Annadani et al., 2015). For most of the people who are taking a selfie and posting them would not be the core sign of the narcissism but instead they may be simply for someone to showing off their new haircut or sharing a beautiful moment with their friends. Certain types of photos suggest increased narcissism but further studies will have to be done on the link between why we take and post selfies. There is also more to learn about why there is a larger increase in narcissism with men over women. Whether it is someone taking selfies or youve noticed a new or confusing behavioral trait in a loved one, narcissism is a complicated matter (Annadani et al., 2015). Therefore, to study the impact on the narcissism of the individual on their persona we need to observe the basic behavior patterns of the individuals. Aim of the study To assess if there was a relationship between the amounts of self -promotion within social media profile photo choices and level of narcissism Hypothesis H1: There is no significant relationship between the amounts of self -promotion within social media profile photo choices and level of narcissism H a: There is significant relationship between the amounts of self -promotion within social media profile photo choices and level of narcissism Method Participants Participation is voluntary, and involves completing a short anonymous online questionnaire which focus on social media profile and questions about some personality characteristics. the participants must be over 18 years.1784 people completed the questions out of which only 1681 people use different types of social media. the age range of participants vary between 18-82(M=28.89 years, SD=12.94 years), in which 422 are males ,1255 are females and 4 others. Material All the participants (males and females) participated online a link was sent to them through email by the trimester 2 students of Psychology B. it contains questions about the social media profile picture and personality characteristics of participants. questions about gender, age, social media sites which they use , profile pictures they like to display , what they like to post and do on social media. every participant may be respond in a different manner based on his or her preference. there is percentage sacle to quantify the usage of social media sites Procedure Participants (males and females were asked about their age and gender and which social media website they use regularly. after that in the next step they are shown with some profile pictures and asked to rate them how likely they use each type on their own profiles. There are different pictures for males and females. After that they are provided with some set of statements and asked to choose from that that comes closer to their own feelings, thoughts and beliefs. it took hardly 10 minutes to complete the questionnaire. data was collected and analysed by the teaching staff for the result and conclusion of the study. Result To assess if there was a relationship between the amount of self -promotion within social media profile photo choices and level of narcissism, a bivariate correlational analysis was completed. a strong, positive relationship between self-promotion and narcissism was found which mean that as the one variable increase it put synergism effect on the other, r=.80(a tough relationship),p=0.00(so there is less than 5% probability that result occurred by chance i.e. a statistically significant association - self-promotion is related to narcissism), representing 64% shared variance between the variables Discussion From the above study, it is clear that there exists a strong positive relationship between self-promotion and narcissism. Two strains of the behavior of narcissists, firstly grandiose narcissism and secondly vulnerable narcissism are often shown in the various relationships for using the social networking sites. The grandose form of the narcissism are the more extroverted and the callous form that are positively related to the mount of time spent with the social media use, the frequency of the updates and also the frequency to post the selfies (DiFonzo, 2016). The vulnerable narcissism on the other hand are more of a insecure form where they do not show any relation to the social media, however there still is a relatively very little amount of research that has been done on this form of narcissism. However, Campbell and his colleagues (2015), have found out that when the individuals engage with the social media, they will be engaging in the more amount of narcissism than that might ever exist in the world. This can obviously distort the view of the world to be more narcissist than others can (Annadani et al., 2016). Therefore, from the evidences collected, it proves that there exists a positive relationship between the self-promotion of the individuals through the social media with them becoming narcissists.
